What is the AUCC?

The purpose of a general education curriculum is to introduce learners to different ways of knowing through disciplinary and interdisciplinary inquiry, and to build intellectual skills needed for advanced courses. At CSU, the All-University Core Curriculum (AUCC) serves as the general education program. The AUCC is a distribution model in which students choose from a set of course options to satisfy the requirement in each category. Specific AUCC courses are required by certain majors, and the Honors Program offers enrolled students a set of integrated seminar courses that fulfill some of the AUCC requirements. Category 4 courses serve as integrative capstones for the AUCC learning outcomes, and are taught in the major.

Guaranteed Transfer (GT) Pathways Courses

The Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) works with higher education institutions to maintain an articulation agreement for credit transfer, called the Guaranteed Transfer (GT) Pathways General Education Curriculum. Approved courses are expected to share content and learning outcomes so that students earning a C- or higher at one institution will be able to transfer the credit, and thus, their learning to another institution. At CSU, the GT Pathways learning outcomes and content are integrated into most of the AUCC courses. AUCC courses that are approved for GT Pathways credit are designated in the CSU Catalog listing.

Core Student Learning Outcomes and Content Criteria

AUCC courses are expected to align content, learning activities, and student assessments to a set of Core Student Learning Outcomes and Content Criteria for the course’s respective category. Learning outcomes are roughly built upon the Association of American Colleges & Universities Essential Learning Outcomes, and are aligned with the GT Pathways outcomes. It is expected that AUCC courses contribute to the development of Core Student Learning Outcomes throughout the student academic experience. Content Criteria define the competencies that students should demonstrate upon successful completion of a course. Academic programs and instructors make choices about curriculum and instruction to help students achieve the intended outcomes.
