Equity in instruction, student learning experiences, and learning outcomes has become a top concern for college and university educators. Naturally, the ways in which classroom instructors assess student learning has become an area of intense interest. Unconscious bias and unexamined assumptions can unintentionally contribute to learning and achievement gaps for groups of students. A focus on equity helps us to improve our assessment practices to help all students learn and achieve.

Another term that is often used in these conversations is Culturally Responsive Assessment. Built on the constructs of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, Culturally Responsive Assessment argues for an intentional focus on conducting assessment in ways that recognize and support the needs of our increasingly diverse student populations while attending to issues of equity. Assessment approaches that are culturally appropriate can more effectively promote academic achievement for students from diverse backgrounds.

In this space, we will share resources, tools, and conversations about equitable and culturally responsive assessment practices for classroom educators. We invite contributions to this space that contribute to these conversations.
