AUCC 1C Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Community of Practice

Community of Practice (CoP)
AUCC 1C: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Course (Re)Design and Assessment

Purpose

The new AUCC 1C (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) category was approved by Faculty Council in 2022 and was officially incorporated into the 2022-23 Catalog. To provide a non-disruptive transition for students, courses in the former 3E (Diversity and Global Awareness) category were temporarily applied to 1C with the expectation that departments would create and revise courses to address the new 1C course learning outcomes. This Community of Practice will provide a place for faculty members to explore ideas for innovative ways to address the learning outcomes in their own disciplines and share strategies for addressing challenges in the 1C classroom. CoP participants will provide peer support for (re)designing courses for submission and approval through the university curriculum processes. The CoP will also support future AUCC assessment efforts.

Goals

  1. Provide peer support and shared resources for developing course assignments and learning activities to support student achievement of AUCC 1C course learning outcomes.
  2. Contribute to the development of a category-wide assessment strategy for AUCC 1C learning outcomes assessment to be conducted in collaboration with course instructors in 2024-25.

Who is this for?

We invite all faculty who are interested in developing a new course or revising an existing course for the AUCC 1C (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) category. We also encourage faculty who have experience teaching with DEI learning outcomes and inclusive pedagogies to contribute their expertise for the benefit of faculty peers.

Departments should note that time is short for getting new courses approved for Fall 2024 (see CSU Catalog Deadlines AY23-24), but experimental courses can be submitted until July 12, 2024.
